Updated October 16, 2026

Parcello works with FedEx Freight for LTL freight on your own FedEx Freight account: live rates at checkout and in Quick Quote, bills of lading, pickups and tracking.

FedEx Freight is a separate company from FedEx, with its own developer portal and its own credentials, so it has its own card on the Carriers page. Your FedEx connection doesn’t cover it.

Before you start

  • A fedexfreight.com user ID and your FedEx Freight account number. The account must be registered at your ship-from address.
  • An integration on developer.fedexfreight.com with production access. You enter its Client ID and Client secret in Parcello.
  • Ship-from locations in the United States, each with a street address and a phone number. FedEx Freight in Parcello ships within the United States, and the bill of lading needs both.
  • Boxes with real dimensions and weights for anything that ships freight. FedEx Freight prices freight from them, and Parcello sets each box’s freight class from them.
  • For rates at checkout, a Shopify plan that allows third-party calculated shipping. See Live rates at checkout.

Get your Client ID and Client secret

Each shipper gets its own credentials from FedEx Freight. On developer.fedexfreight.com:

  1. Sign in with your fedexfreight.com user ID.
  2. Create an integration.
  3. Request production access for it.

Use the integration’s production Client ID and Client secret in Parcello. Parcello doesn’t accept test credentials.

Connect FedEx Freight

  1. Go to Carriers and open the FedEx Freight card.
  2. Enter the Client ID, Client secret and FedEx Freight account number.
  3. Under BOL billing, enter the bill-to account when FedEx Freight bills another account (see below).
  4. Click Connect.

Parcello signs in to FedEx Freight with your credentials, then asks for a test quote from your default location. The card shows Connected. When the test quote fails, the card also shows a warning with the reason, for example:

Test quote from Springfield, IL failed: FedEx Freight says the ship-from address doesn’t match the address on this FedEx Freight account. Each location needs the account registered at its address.

The connection is saved either way. Fix the cause and click Update to check again.

To change a setting later, edit the card and click Update. Leave Client secret blank to keep the one on file. Disconnect removes the connection.

BOL billing

FedEx Freight bills each bill of lading to a bill-to account and checks that account’s billing address on record.

FieldWhat it does
Bill-to account numberThe account FedEx Freight bills for your bills of lading. Blank means the FedEx Freight account number above.
Billing street, City, State, ZIP codeThe bill-to account’s billing address, exactly as FedEx Freight has it on record. Fill in all four or none. Enter the state as its two-letter code. Blank means your ship-from address.

Leave the section blank when the account number above is billed and its billing address is your ship-from address. When FedEx Freight refuses a bill of lading because of the payer, its message says what to change. See FedEx Freight bills of lading and pickups.

Which shipments ship freight

On the Freight plan, with FedEx Freight connected, Parcello puts a product on a freight shipment when either is true:

  • its carrier on the Products page is FedEx Freight (LTL freight) or Estes (LTL freight), or
  • one of its boxes is too big or too heavy for parcel carriers: longer than 108 inches, more than 165 inches in length plus girth, or over 150 lb with its contents.

With automatic packing, the product’s own size decides instead of its box rows.

This happens when the order’s shipments are created, and again when you use Recalculate Packages on the order (available while none of its shipments has a label). On a shipment inside the United States you can also pick FedEx Freight in the shipment’s carrier list yourself.

Which freight carrier an order uses

When both Estes and FedEx Freight are set up, each order uses one freight carrier for all of its freight, and so does each cart at checkout. Parcello picks it in this order:

  1. The freight carrier the freight items are set to on Products, when they name only one. Items that ship freight only because of their size don’t count, and follow it.
  2. On an order, the freight carrier that priced the customer’s checkout option.
  3. Estes, then FedEx Freight.

At checkout only carriers with Surface at checkout ticked count. On an order only connected carriers count.

Example: Order #1001 has a crate set to FedEx Freight and a stand whose box is over parcel limits, both from the same warehouse. One FedEx Freight shipment carries both.

Consolidating parcel items

With Consolidate parcel items onto a freight shipment on (on the Freight card, below), an order with freight from a location sends that location’s parcel items on the same freight shipment. Their boxes become extra lines on the bill of lading. Checkout prices the cart the same way, so the customer pays for one freight shipment. The setting applies to Estes and FedEx Freight alike.

The Freight card

The Freight card under Default Carrier on the Carriers page holds the settings both freight carriers share:

SettingWhat it does
Consolidate parcel items onto a freight shipmentSee above. Saves as soon as you tick or untick it.
BOL special instructionsStanding text printed on every bill of lading, up to 500 characters, for example your accessorial policy or a contact person. You can edit it per shipment.
Pickup ready from / Pickup ready toYour default pickup window, 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM until you change it. Printed on every bill of lading and prefilled when you book a pickup.

Click Save after changing the instructions or the window.

How Parcello describes freight to FedEx Freight

Each box is one handling unit, with its dimensions (longest side first) and its weight. Parcello sets each box’s freight class from its density, on the same NMFTA density scale it uses for Estes. See Freight class.

Freight at checkout

On the Freight plan, with FedEx Freight connected and Surface at checkout ticked in the FedEx Freight card’s Checkout rates section, carts whose freight carrier is FedEx Freight get FedEx Freight quotes. You choose:

  • the Service levels to show: FedEx Freight® Priority and FedEx Freight® Economy, both on by default, each with a checkbox, Rank and display name,
  • the Rate type: Negotiated (your account’s price) or List,
  • your Surcharge % and Flat surcharge per shipment,
  • the Delivery accessorials folded into every quote: Residential delivery and Liftgate at delivery (on by default), Inside delivery, Limited-access delivery and Delivery appointment (call before delivery).

Residential delivery here, not Home or business, decides whether FedEx Freight quotes a home delivery. FedEx Freight has no backup service levels and no coverage option.

FedEx Freight quotes shipments within the United States and needs the destination ZIP code, city and state. When Shopify asks for rates before the customer has entered a city, FedEx Freight can’t quote and the cart gets your backup rates. See Choose carriers and services for checkout and How checkout prices a cart.

Quick Quote

On the Freight plan, Quick Quote rates FedEx Freight too. A Freight (FedEx Freight) section adds Liftgate at delivery, Inside delivery, Limited-access delivery and Delivery appointment (call before delivery), and a home delivery follows the Residential destination box. See Quick Quote.

Tracking

With FedEx Freight connected, Parcello looks up the PRO number of every bill of lading you create in Parcello. Until FedEx Freight has the shipment in its tracking, the line reads Pending with “FedEx Freight has the BOL; tracking starts once the shipment is picked up.” The number links to FedEx Freight’s tracking page.

When the order is fulfilled, Shopify gets the PRO number and its FedEx Freight tracking link without a carrier name: Shopify’s list of carriers has no FedEx Freight. See Fulfill orders in Shopify.

A fulfillment created outside Parcello with the tracking company “FedEx Freight” follows Shopify’s own tracking. See The Tracking page.

Notes and limits

  • FedEx Freight in Parcello is for shipments within the United States: checkout quotes, Quick Quote, the order’s carrier list and bills of lading.
  • FedEx Freight doesn’t validate addresses. Parcello uses the address as entered.
  • FedEx Freight shipments have no Signature required checkbox (freight is signed for at delivery), no return labels (book freight returns with FedEx Freight directly) and no carrier emails.
  • Parcello sends no declared value or coverage to FedEx Freight, so FedEx Freight’s standard liability applies.
  • Saturday delivery isn’t priced.
  • Parcello treats FedEx Freight Priority and Economy as not guaranteed, so FedEx Freight shipments never appear under Potential claims.
  • The Shipping Costs page shows what FedEx Freight bills of lading cost, but doesn’t read FedEx Freight invoices, and they can’t be uploaded there.
