Permissions, your data and uninstalling
The Shopify permissions Parcello asks for and why, what it stores, how customer data requests work and what happens when you uninstall.
Updated October 5, 2026
When you install Parcello, Shopify asks you to approve a set of permissions. This page explains what each group is for, what Parcello keeps about your store and your customers, and what happens to that data when you uninstall. The full policy is on the Privacy Policy page.
The permissions Parcello asks for
Shopify shows permissions as technical names. Here they are grouped by what Parcello does with them.
| What it’s for | Shopify permissions | Why Parcello needs it |
|---|---|---|
| Your products | Read products | Lists your products and variants on the Products page with their weights and images, and keeps them in step when you edit them in Shopify. |
| Your orders | Read orders | Imports orders with their line items and shipping and billing addresses, and follows edits and cancellations. |
| Customer tags | Read customers | Reads customer tags for order presets and shipping rules that match on them. |
| Shipping details on the order | Write orders | Used only when you turn on Write shipment details to the order on the Checkout Rates page, to record the checkout shipping decision in the order’s Additional details. |
| Fulfillment | Read fulfillments, write fulfillments, read and write merchant-managed fulfillment orders, read third-party fulfillment orders, read assigned fulfillment orders | Sees what’s left to ship and how each order is delivered (shipped, pickup, local delivery), spots items handled by a fulfillment service, fulfills orders with your tracking numbers, cancels a fulfillment when you ask, and picks up fulfillments made outside Parcello so the Tracking page can follow them. |
| Checkout rates | Write shipping | Registers Parcello as a shipping rate provider at checkout. Used only when you turn on live rates on the Checkout Rates page (Advanced plan). |
| Returns | Read returns, write returns | Creates return labels for returns approved in Shopify, and records returns you start in Parcello as Shopify returns (Operations plan). |
| Store pages | Write app proxy | Lets an app serve pages under your store’s own web address. No Parcello feature uses it today. |
Parcello doesn’t ask for permission to edit your products, themes or payments.
How far back Parcello sees orders
Parcello reads about the last 60 days of orders. Shopify limits apps that don’t have full order history access to recent orders, so Sync Orders on the Orders page can’t reach older ones. Orders placed after you install arrive on their own.
What Parcello stores
| Data | Examples |
|---|---|
| Your store | Store name, store email, owner name, plan |
| Your setup | Locations, boxes, product box rules, carrier and checkout settings |
| Products | Product and variant titles, SKUs, weights, image links |
| Orders | Order number and date, customer name and email, shipping and billing addresses (with phone numbers), line items, order and customer tags |
| Shipments | Boxes, weights, declared values, labels, tracking numbers and events, customs forms and documents, packing slip edits |
| Carrier connections | Account numbers, sign-in tokens, API keys and passwords |
| Carrier call records | What Parcello sent to and received from your carriers |
Carrier passwords, API keys, sign-in tokens and account numbers are stored encrypted.
Records of carrier calls are deleted on a schedule: tracking lookups after 90 days, everything else after one year.
To give you rates, labels, pickups and tracking, Parcello sends the details a carrier needs (such as the recipient’s address and phone number, box sizes and weights, declared values and customs details) to the carriers and shipping services you connect.
Customer data requests
When a customer asks you for a copy of their data, Shopify tells every app installed on your store. Parcello then emails your store email a file with everything it holds for that customer’s orders: addresses, line items, shipments, tracking events, boxes and customs document details.
You’re responsible for combining that file with your data from Shopify and your other apps and giving it to the customer. The email reminds you that this is due within 30 days of the original request.
The email also says how many of the customer’s orders Parcello found, which can be none.
Customer erasure requests
When a customer asks to be erased, Shopify sends Parcello the list of their orders. For those orders and their shipments, Parcello removes the customer’s name, email, customer tags and addresses, the shipment notification email and any packing slip edits, and the customs form’s contact details. It also deletes the records of carrier calls that mention the customer.
Labels and customs documents that were already created for those orders are kept.
Uninstalling Parcello
When you uninstall:
- Parcello stops working on your store right away. Its sign-in to your store is removed, and Shopify ends your Parcello subscription.
- Your data is kept for 48 hours, so an uninstall by mistake can be undone. If you reinstall within those 48 hours, your setup, orders and shipments are still there.
- After 48 hours, Shopify asks Parcello to delete your store’s data, and Parcello deletes all of it.
One record stays after the deletion: if you connected FedEx, Parcello keeps the record that your store accepted the FedEx end user license agreement, because FedEx requires it.
Uninstalling doesn’t void labels you already created. Void any labels you won’t use before you uninstall, because you can’t void them in Parcello afterwards.
