Connect FedEx
Connect your FedEx account in three steps, accept the FedEx license agreement, register your account, and verify it with a code or an invoice.
Updated October 13, 2026
Connect FedEx to get rates and buy labels on your own FedEx account. FedEx asks every account to go through the same three steps: accept its end user license agreement, register your account details, then confirm that the account is yours.
Before you start
- Your 9-digit FedEx shipping account number.
- The company name and address exactly as FedEx has them on file for that account. A mismatch is the most common reason FedEx rejects a registration.
- Access to the phone number or email address on file with your FedEx account, or a recent FedEx invoice for that account.
- About 30 minutes free. The verification step must be finished within 30 minutes of submitting your account details.
Step 1: Accept the license agreement
- Go to Carriers and open the FedEx card.
- Click Connect FedEx. The FedEx End User License Agreement page opens.
- Scroll through the whole agreement. The I ACCEPT button turns on once you reach the end, and the badge changes to “Scrolled to end — Accept enabled”.
- Check Email of person accepting (for FedEx audit record). It is filled in with your Shopify login email. Change it if someone else is accepting for the company.
- Click I ACCEPT.
The registration form opens. I Decline takes you back to Carriers without connecting.
You accept once per store. If FedEx publishes a new version, the page shows Previous version on file and asks you to accept the current one.
Step 2: Register your FedEx account
On Register FedEx account, fill in:
| Field | What to enter |
|---|---|
| FedEx account number | Your 9-digit shipping account number. |
| Company name | The company name on the FedEx account. |
| Street address | The account’s street address. |
| City, Postal code | As FedEx has them on file. |
| State (or Province for Canada) | Choose it from the list. FedEx matches the two-letter code against your account. |
| Country | United States or Canada. |
| Contact phone (for our audit record) | Optional. FedEx doesn’t use it to send the code. It sends the code to the phone or email on file with your account. |
If you registered before, the form starts with your last answers. Click Register with FedEx.
Most accounts go on to the verification page. Some accounts are connected right away with no verification, and you land back on Carriers with FedEx connected.
Step 3: Verify the account
The FedEx verification page shows the account number being verified and a countdown: “Verification session expires in MM:SS”. It lists only the methods FedEx offers for your account, so you may see fewer than four. For example, there’s no Email when the account has no email on file with FedEx. Pick any one method.
By code (text, email or voice call):
- In Text message (SMS), Email or Voice call, click Send text message, Send email or Place voice call. FedEx sends a 6-digit code to the phone or email on file with your FedEx account. The method shows the last digits of that phone number, or the email with most of it hidden, which can differ from the phone you entered on the registration form. A voice call reads the code aloud.
- A green banner confirms the code was sent and a code field appears.
- Type the code and click Verify code.
If the code doesn’t arrive, click Resend code. If FedEx can’t send the code, or doesn’t accept the code or the invoice, the verification stays open: try again or use another method on the page.
By invoice:
- In Recent FedEx invoice, enter the Invoice number, Invoice date, Currency (USD or CAD) and Amount from a recent invoice for this account.
- Click Verify invoice.
When FedEx accepts the code or the invoice, you return to Carriers and the FedEx card shows your account number with a Disconnect button.
Step 4: Pick a default service
FedEx doesn’t come with a default service. In Shipment defaults on the FedEx card, choose:
| Setting | Options |
|---|---|
| Default service | FedEx Ground®, FedEx Home Delivery®, FedEx Express Saver®, FedEx 2Day®, FedEx 2Day® A.M., FedEx Standard Overnight®, FedEx Priority Overnight®, FedEx First Overnight® |
| Label format | ZPL (Zebra Thermal 4x6), PNG (4x6 image, for non-Zebra printers), PDF (Letter 8.5x11, for office printers) |
| Label paper | Thermal label printer (4×6), Half-sheet labels (2 per letter page), Letter paper (1 label per page) |
The label format starts at ZPL. The card header shows Setup incomplete until a default service is picked, then Setup complete. Click Print a test label to check your printer. See Print labels on a Zebra or a laser printer.
Below the defaults, Notifications sets the emails FedEx sends. See Carrier shipping emails.
If you leave partway
The FedEx card remembers where you stopped:
- After accepting the agreement, it shows FedEx terms accepted and a Continue setup button.
- After FedEx accepts your address, it shows Verification in progress and a Continue verification button for the 30 minutes the verification stays open.
- If FedEx refused the address, or the 30 minutes ran out, it shows Continue setup again. Submit the form again to start a new verification.
Notes and limits
- FedEx tracking numbers get live status in Parcello even before you connect FedEx, including FedEx shipments from a warehouse or another app.
- Disconnect removes the FedEx connection. You don’t need to accept the agreement again to reconnect: you start at the registration form.
- To use another FedEx account, click Disconnect, then Connect FedEx again.
- On the Advanced plan the card also has a Checkout rates section. See Choose carriers and services for checkout.
Troubleshooting
Registration failed. The banner shows FedEx’s response. Check that the company name and address match your FedEx account exactly, then submit again. “FedEx account number must be 9 digits.” means the number has the wrong length. “Account, company, and address fields are required.” means a required field is empty.
The countdown runs out. You return to the registration form with the banner Verification session expired: “Your previous FedEx verification session timed out before completion (FedEx’s authorization codes are valid for 30 minutes).” Your answers are still filled in. Submit again and finish verification within 30 minutes.
“Your FedEx verification session has expired. Please re-enter your account information to start a new one.” Same cause. Click Return to the address form on the verification page and submit the form again.
“FedEx says the code is wrong or has expired.” The method shows it under Text message verification did not complete (or the method you used). Click Resend code and enter the new code, or try another method.
“FedEx couldn’t send a code by text message. Try again in a few minutes, or choose another method below.” FedEx refused to send the code. The verification stays open: try again in a few minutes, or use another method.
“FedEx found no invoice with that number on this account.” or “FedEx didn’t accept the invoice.” Check the invoice number, date and amount against the invoice, then try again. The verification stays open.
Each of these messages ends with FedEx’s error code, such as “FedEx error: PIN.ISSUE.FAILED.” Include it if you contact us.
No verification session is open. The page shows this when the 30 minutes have passed, or when it’s opened without submitting the registration form. Click Return to the address form and submit it again. Your answers are still filled in.
“Enter the invoice number, date, and amount from a recent FedEx invoice.” One of the invoice fields is empty.
The code never arrives. FedEx sends it to the phone or email on file with the FedEx account, not to your Shopify email or the phone you entered on the registration form. The method shows the last digits of the number FedEx uses. If you can’t reach it, use Recent FedEx invoice instead.
