Connect UPS

Sign in to your UPS account from the Carriers page, add your 6-character UPS account number, and set the default service and label format.

Updated October 23, 2026

Connect UPS to get rates and buy labels on your own UPS account, at your account’s prices. It takes two steps: connect the account, then enter your UPS account number.

Before you start

  • A UPS account with a shipper account number (6 characters). You find it at ups.com under My UPS.
  • Your UPS username and password, or API credentials from a UPS developer app (see Option 2 below).
  • Allow pop-ups for the Shopify admin in your browser. The UPS sign-in opens in a pop-up window.
  • Keep the Carriers page open while you sign in. Parcello finishes the connection on that page when the pop-up hands it back.

Step 1: Connect your UPS account

Go to Carriers and open the UPS card. You have two ways to connect. Use one of them.

Option 1: Sign in with your UPS account

  1. Under Option 1: Sign in with your UPS account, click Connect with UPS (OAuth).
  2. A pop-up opens at ups.com. Sign in with your UPS username and password and approve the connection.
  3. The pop-up says “Finishing in Parcello. This window will close.” and closes on its own after a couple of seconds.

The Carriers page shows the green banner “UPS connected.” The UPS card now shows an Account section and a Shipment defaults section.

Option 2: Enter API credentials

Use this if you already manage a UPS developer app. The card says: “Visit developer.ups.com, enable the Rating, Shipping, and Time in Transit APIs for your account and paste credentials below.”

  1. Under Option 2: Enter API credentials, paste your Client ID and Client Secret.
  2. Click Connect.

Parcello checks the credentials with UPS before saving them. You should see the green banner “UPS settings saved successfully.” and the Account section appears.

If you connect with Option 1 later, it replaces the API credentials. If you save API credentials later, they replace the sign-in. Your account number stays either way.

Step 2: Enter your UPS account number

UPS doesn’t share your account number when you connect, so you enter it once yourself.

  1. In the Account section, type your number in Account Number. The card’s hint says: “Find it at ups.com → My UPS. It’s 6 characters.”
  2. Click Save.

Until you save it, the section shows the banner “Enter your account number to finish setup. Required for label creation.” and the card header says Setup incomplete.

After you save, Parcello sets UPS Ground as the default service and ZPL as the label format if you haven’t picked them yet, and the header changes to Setup complete.

Step 3: Check the shipment defaults

The Shipment defaults section is “Applied to new shipments. Override per shipment from the order detail page.”

SettingOptions
Default serviceUPS Ground, UPS 3 Day Select, UPS 2nd Day Air, UPS 2nd Day Air A.M., UPS Next Day Air Saver, UPS Next Day Air, UPS Next Day Air Early
Label formatZPL (Zebra Thermal 4x6), GIF (Thermal 4x6, for non-Zebra thermal printers), PDF (Letter 8.5x11, for office printers)
Label paperThermal label printer (4×6), Half-sheet labels (2 per letter page), Letter paper (1 label per page)

Each setting saves when you change it. Click Print a test label to check the size on your printer without buying a label. See Print labels on a Zebra or a laser printer.

The default service is only a starting point. When a customer paid for a specific UPS service at checkout, Parcello uses that one instead. See How Parcello picks the carrier and service.

Step 4 (optional): Shipment emails

Below the defaults, Notifications sets the emails UPS sends to your customer and to you. Click Save notifications after changing them. See Carrier shipping emails.

Notes and limits

  • UPS checks street addresses in the United States and Puerto Rico. For other countries the order page shows “UPS validates U.S. and Puerto Rico addresses only. The address will be used as entered.” and you can still create labels.
  • Return labels on UPS are one label per box, because UPS doesn’t allow several boxes on one return.
  • The UPS card has no Disconnect button. To switch to another UPS account, connect again with Option 1 or Option 2, then update the account number.
  • Tracking for your UPS shipments, including ones fulfilled outside Parcello, works while UPS is connected.
  • On the Advanced plan the card also has a Checkout rates section. See Choose carriers and services for checkout.

Troubleshooting

Nothing happens when you click Connect with UPS (OAuth). Your browser blocked the pop-up. Allow pop-ups for the Shopify admin and click the button again.

“UPS sign-in didn’t finish. Try again.” You cancelled on the UPS page, closed the pop-up before it finished, or UPS refused the sign-in. Click Connect with UPS (OAuth) again.

The pop-up says “Return to Parcello and click Connect with UPS again.” The pop-up lost its link to the Carriers page, for example because that page was closed or reloaded during the sign-in. Go back to Carriers and click Connect with UPS (OAuth) again.

“That sign-in link expired. Click Connect with UPS again.” The Carriers page was open for more than an hour before you signed in. Click the button again.

“This sign-in was started for a different store.” The sign-in began in Parcello on another store. Start it again from this store’s Carriers page.

“Invalid UPS credentials. Please check your Client ID and Client Secret.” UPS rejected the API credentials. Copy them again from your UPS developer app. The card keeps your saved Client Secret if you leave that field blank, so paste it again when you change apps.

“Client ID and Client Secret are required for UPS setup” Fill in both fields before clicking Connect.

Getting rates fails with “Operation failed: UPS account number missing — enter your 6-digit shipper number on the Carriers page to enable rating.” You connected but haven’t saved the account number. Do Step 2.

Ground rates show no delivery date (API credentials only). UPS’s Time in Transit API isn’t enabled for your developer app. Rates still work. Enable Time in Transit at developer.ups.com to get dates on every service.

The card still says Setup incomplete. Open the card and read the list under “Finish setup to enable rating and label creation:”. It names the missing piece: the account number, the default service or the label format.
