EU product identifiers
Add the M-PID, NS-PID and S-PID to customs rows for shipments to consumers in the EU.
Updated October 5, 2026
From November 1, 2026, EU customs requires three product identifiers on every item in a shipment to a consumer. Parcello adds the fields to the customs form for EU destinations and prefills them from your products.
When the fields appear
The three fields show on each commodity row of the Customs forms card when the delivery address is in the EU customs territory: the 27 EU member states, Monaco, Guadeloupe, French Guiana, Martinique, Réunion, Mayotte, Saint Martin and the Åland Islands.
Whether they are required depends on who receives the goods:
| Shipment | Product identifiers |
|---|---|
| EU destination, Importer tax ID (optional) blank (a consumer) | Required on every row. Each empty field shows “Required for EU consumers”. |
| EU destination, importer tax ID filled (a business) | Optional. The tax ID marks the shipment as business to business, which the rules exempt. |
| Any other destination | Not shown. |
The note above the rows tells you which case applies: “Shipping to a consumer in the EU: every row needs its product identifiers.” or “Product identifiers are optional here: the importer’s tax ID marks this a business shipment.”
The three fields
| Field | What to enter | Prefilled with |
|---|---|---|
| M-PID (your SKU) | Your own SKU or product code. | The variant’s SKU. |
| NS-PID (model or part no.) | The manufacturer’s model, part or style number. If you make the product yourself, your SKU. | The variant’s SKU. |
| S-PID (barcode, or NO) | The barcode number (GTIN, EAN, UPC or ISBN), or NO when the product has none. | NO. |
Each field takes up to 70 characters.
Fill them in
- Open the order and expand the shipment going to the EU.
- In the Customs forms card, check each row’s three identifiers.
- If you resell another brand’s product, replace the NS-PID with the manufacturer’s model or part number, and put the barcode number in the S-PID.
- Fill the rest of the form (HS code, country of origin) as usual. See International shipments and the customs form.
- Click Create Labels.
The prefill only applies while the customs form has never been saved. Once you edit anything, the form keeps what you saved.
Example: you sell your own wall clock with SKU CLK-200 and no barcode. The row reads M-PID CLK-200, NS-PID CLK-200, S-PID NO, which is correct as is. For a resold speaker with SKU SPK-1, model number BX-90 and barcode 0012345678905, set NS-PID to BX-90 and S-PID to 0012345678905.
Where the identifiers go
- FedEx: sent with the label for shipments to EU consumers.
- Parcello’s invoice: printed on the commercial or pro forma invoice under each item, as M-PID, NS-PID and S-PID, for every EU destination.
For other carriers, the identifiers reach customs on Parcello’s printed invoice. Print it and attach it to the outside of the box, as the Documents card reminds you.
Notes and limits
- Create Labels stays disabled on an EU consumer shipment until every row has all three identifiers.
- Shipments to business buyers with an importer tax ID don’t need the identifiers. Add the tax ID only when the buyer is really a business.
- The form locks when the label is created. Void the label to change the identifiers.
Troubleshooting
| Symptom | Cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| “Add the product identifiers (M-PID, NS-PID and S-PID) to every customs row below. EU customs needs them on shipments to consumers.” | A row is missing an identifier on an EU consumer shipment | Fill all three fields on every row. Use NO in the S-PID when there is no barcode. |
| The identifier fields are empty even though the product has a SKU | The customs form was saved before, so the prefill doesn’t apply | Type the SKU into the M-PID and NS-PID fields. |
| No identifier fields on a European shipment | The destination isn’t in the EU customs territory (for example the UK, Norway or Switzerland) | Nothing to do. |
